Alan Cleveland was born in Rockdale County and has represented clients in Athens and the surrounding areas for decades. He graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in journalism and public relations but always knew he wanted to become a trial lawyer. After working for a period and starting a family, he attended John Marshall Law School in Atlanta at age 33. During this time, he clerked for Georgia Supreme Court Justice Hugh Thompson. He later graduated from law school summa cum laude.

When he returned to Gwinnett County, Alan Cleveland began his legal career by working at various local firms and partnerships, where he gained significant experience serving plaintiffs in personal injury cases. He obtained a landmark jury verdict of $9.85 million for his client in a wrongful death case that involved a daycare center drowning, as well as a $72 million verdict in a dog attack case. He has also helped numerous other clients achieve settlements and verdicts worth six or seven figures throughout his career.

“I like helping people get what they think is fair compensation and helping them get their lives back together,” he says. “They suffer injuries, their lives turn into chaos, they don’t have anywhere to turn, and they need a champion who can guide them through a difficult situation. In addition to his work as an accomplished personal injury lawyer, Alan Cleveland regularly speaks at continuing legal education seminars on practical legal topics related to personal injury law.

He is also an active member of his home community, where he has served as a board member for the North Gwinnett Baseball and Softball Association and volunteered as a youth baseball coach for years. He also regularly assists with the Gwinnett County High School Moot Court competition.

Since moving to Athens in 2020, Alan has continued his community service work.  The Athens-Clarke County Commissioners appointed him to serve on the Development Authority of the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County. He also volunteers and serves on the Finance Committee of Historic Athens, a non-profit dedicated to the preservation of historic properties in Athens-Clarke County.

He remains active with Phi Kappa Tau, his college fraternity, and regularly speaks on topics such as leadership, risk management, and recruitment at chapter seminars throughout the continental Southeast.
